Reading has always been a passion for Gail Filkins and she is thrilled to be finishing her career as an 8th grade Language Arts teacher. Ms. Filkins began teaching reading and music to 5th graders over 30 years ago in Lakewood, Ohio. She has spent the past 21 years of her career as a 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th grade teacher in the Strongsville City School District in Strongsville, Ohio. In this capacity, she has shared her expertise in language arts by serving on three district-wide curriculum committees, writing goals for all aspects of language arts and choosing materials for grades 1-8. Ms. Filkins received her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and Music from the University of Toledo and her Master’s in Reading Specialization from Kent State University. She continues to stay involved in extracurricular activities by coaching Power of the Pen, serving on a middle school committee, and attending various workshops and conferences in her field of interest. Ms. Filkins contributed to the Middle School Reading & Vocabulary Room.
