Michelle Smart has been a Media Specialist for 4 years. She began her education career at St. Joseph School in Erie, Michigan, teaching 7th & 8th grade math and science. Michelle has spent the past 4 years as a Media Specialist for the Hudson City School District in Hudson, Ohio. Her responsibilities include teaching information literacy skills, collaborating with teachers on various research projects, and sharing a love of reading with 4th and 5th graders in her school. Michelle received her Bachelor’s of Science in Education from The Ohio State University and returned to graduate school to earn her Master’s in Library Science from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Later, she earned her Master’s in Reading from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan.  Michelle holds a teaching certificate with the State of Ohio as well as media certification.  Over the past several years, she has attended several ILILE events to help develop relationships with teachers in her building to encourage collaboration. She has also presented a collaborative unit that she created with another teacher in her district at an ILILE summer workshop for social studies.  In 2002, Michelle received a Shining Apple Award for a presentation at an Ohio Educational Library Media Association conference with other librarians in her school district on how to build collaborative relationships. Michelle contributed to the Elementary School Math Room.
